One of the lines of work of Renodo is the exploration of situation in other markets and promote the prospective focus on the possibilities of reading and the industry around the contents. The FGSR and FANDE have organized a workshop in Casa del Lector with a Korean delegation in which information and projects have been exchanged around the following issues:
- Reader behavior and its tendencies.
- Current situation and evolution of each of the subsectors (edition, distribution and booksellers).
- Role of libraries.
- Strategies for the promotion of reading.
- New tools for innovation in the book sector.
The Korean delegation was led by Mr. Wonkeun Beak, who in this interview states that the impact of smartphones on time spent in leisure of Koreans is such that Public Administrations are developing apps to encourage reading on these devices.
Mr. Beak has been familiar with the FGSR projects in the field of reading promotion for ten years, since he shared a debate with the FGSR’s Director General during the World Congress of Publishers that was held in Seoul in 2008. The Korean government has diagnosed an intense reduction of the reading, for leisure reason, in print books and develops a national strategy for the promotion of reading.
