Here you can access to the whole video of the webinar by Gregorio Pellegrino, one of the European experts in ebook formats and technical manager of Fondazione LIA where he coordinates consulting and training activities for national and international organizations who want to change their production processes in order to embrace accessibility. He is involved in international working-group devoted to accessibility of publications and standard formats.
Pellegrino exposes the general trends and the most likely scenario. He foresees a future that will lead even more to the polarization between two ways of selling and enjoying digital books:
Large web platforms that will provide content directly through a web browser (behind a paywall), a bit like other sectors of the media industry such as cinema and music.
Large publishers (e.g. publishers of scientific journals) who will offer content to users through their own websites, for a subscription or for the purchase of a licence.
Pellegrino also reviewed during his presentation all the components of the present situation and the likely convergence of the format of the electronic book (epub) and the internet, the evolution of epub3, the evolution of web publications and the strategic effects that this supposes for the companies in the publishing sector.
This webinar was organized thanks to the collaboration of Fondazione LIA, FUNDACIÓN GERMÁN SÁNCHEZ RUIPÉREZ and IPDA.
